Cookies & Local Storage

1.Why there is no cookie banner

You will not see a cookie pop-up here, and that is not an oversight. Australian law has no general cookie-consent requirement of the kind that produces those banners in Europe; what applies is the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which is concerned with personal information however it is collected.

More to the point, we have nothing to ask you to consent to. We set no cookies on visitors, we do not track anyone across the site, and we do not share anything with advertisers or analytics companies. A banner asking permission for things we do not do would be theatre.

2.What we actually store on your device

There is one item, and it is not a cookie.

ai-kids-badges — browser local storage

A short list of which AI missions have been completed, for example ["next-word", "word-chopper"]. That is the whole contents. It holds no name, no age and nothing that could identify a child.

Local storage stays on the one device and is never transmitted. We cannot read it from our end — there is no server involved and no account it could be attached to. It has no expiry date; it lasts until the browser data is cleared.

3.What we do not use

No analytics of any kind — no Google Analytics, no Vercel Analytics, no page-view counters. We genuinely do not know how many people visit which page.
No advertising, ad networks, retargeting or marketing cookies.
No tracking pixels, web beacons, social media buttons or embedded trackers.
No device fingerprinting, session recording or heatmaps.
No third-party fonts fetched at page load — fonts are served from our own domain, so loading a page does not tell anyone else you were here.
No cross-site tracking, and nothing that follows you after you leave.

4.The one cookie that exists

The site has a private administrative area, used by the operator to add entries to the AI resource catalogue. Signing in there sets a single session cookie, which is HTTP-only and expires when the session ends.

This cookie is never set for ordinary visitors. Unless you are the operator signing in to that area, no cookie is placed on your device by this site at all.

5.Clearing what is stored

Deleting the badge list is the same as clearing site data for milecoder.com in your browser. It takes a few seconds and nothing else is affected:

Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies → See all site data and permissions → search milecoder.com → Delete.
Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data → search milecoder.com → Remove.
Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data → search milecoder.com → Remove Selected.
Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data → See all site data → search milecoder.com → Delete.

Because the badge list only exists on that one device, a child using a shared school computer will not find their passport on a different machine. If you want a permanent record, the passport can be printed from the AI missions page.

6.Other places information travels

Two parts of the site do involve a network request, and both are described in full in our Privacy Policy: our host records standard web-server logs for every request, as all websites do, and searches on the adult-facing AI Resources page are passed to GitHub, npm, Hugging Face and the Model Context Protocol registry to fetch live results. Neither involves cookies.

None of the children's activities make any network request at all once the page has loaded.
