Terms of Service

These terms apply to www.milecoder.com, operated by Mile Coder as a sole trader based in Victoria, Australia. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

If you are under 18, please read these terms with a parent, carer or teacher. The activities themselves are built for children and need no agreement to use.

Where we are permitted to limit our liability for a failure to meet a consumer guarantee in relation to services, we limit it to supplying those services again, or paying the cost of having them supplied again. As the site is provided free of charge, that cost will ordinarily be nil.

Mile Coder is a free educational website that explains how artificial intelligence works to children aged roughly four to eight, and gives their parents and teachers material to use alongside it. There is no account, no subscription and no payment.

The AI activities are deliberate simplifications. The models behind them are small demonstrations running in your browser — a word-frequency chain, a tiny classifier and so on — designed to make an idea visible to a young child. They are not the commercial AI systems they describe, and they are not intended to be technically complete.

We want this material used. You may, free of charge and without asking us:

• Print, photocopy and hand out our worksheets, discussion cards, certificates and lesson plans to your own children, your class, your school or your homeschool group.
• Use the lesson plans and activities in your teaching, including on a projector or interactive whiteboard.
• Share a link to any page on this site with colleagues, families or students.
• Translate or adapt a worksheet for your own students, provided it stays within your own classroom or family.

We ask that you do not:

• Sell our material, or include it in anything you charge for, including paid teaching-resource marketplaces and paid course bundles.
• Republish substantial parts of the site elsewhere as though they were your own, or remove our name from printed sheets.
• Use our name, logo or branding in a way that suggests we endorse or are affiliated with your product, school or organisation without our written agreement.

Aside from this licence, the site's content, code, design and name remain our property and are protected by the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) and other laws. If you would like to use the material in a way that falls outside the licence above, just ask us at contact.milecoder@gmail.com. The answer for genuine educational use is usually yes.

Nothing in this clause limits what you may already do under the fair dealing and statutory educational provisions of the Copyright Act 1968.

Please do not:

• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, its administrative area or its underlying systems.
• Interfere with the site’s operation, or use automated tools in a way that degrades it for other people.
• Use the site to break the law, or to harm or harass anyone.
• Misrepresent the site as your own, or strip out its attribution.

We may restrict access to anyone doing these things. We will not do so arbitrarily.

We take real care with what we teach and we correct mistakes when we find them. But this is general educational material, not professional, technical or educational advice about any particular child, class or curriculum. You are the one who knows your child or your students.

Mile Coder is designed to be used alongside an adult, particularly at the younger end of its age range. It is a teaching aid, not supervision. Please do not treat it as a substitute for a parent, carer or teacher being present.

Where we reference curriculum standards such as CSTA or AI4K12, we are describing our own view of how an activity maps to them. We are not accredited by, endorsed by, or affiliated with those bodies, and you should check any mapping against your own school's requirements.

The site links to material we do not control, and the AI Resources page returns live results from GitHub, npm, Hugging Face and the Model Context Protocol registry. We do not control, check or endorse what those sites contain, and their own terms and privacy policies apply when you go there.

The AI Resources page is intended for adults building software, not for children.

This clause is subject to clause 2. It does not affect any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

The site is provided free of charge and we do not promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it, and we may stop offering it entirely.

To the extent the law allows, and subject to clause 2, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site — for example lost profits, lost data or lost opportunity. We are liable for loss we cause through our own negligence, and for anything the law does not permit us to exclude.

Because your badge progress is stored only in your own browser, we cannot recover it if you clear your browser data or change device. Print the passport from the AI missions page if you want to keep a record.

How we handle personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy, and what we store in your browser is set out in our Cookies & Local Storage page. In short: children give us nothing, and there is no tracking anywhere on the site.

We may update these terms — for example if we add a feature or the law changes. The current version always appears on this page with its date at the top.

If we make a change that materially reduces your rights, we will publish a notice on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after that point means you accept the updated terms; if you do not accept them, you should stop using the site.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria and the courts able to hear appeals from them.

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, it is severed and the rest continues to apply. Our not enforcing a right on one occasion does not waive it.
